eugene brosseau: Recent Works on Paper

Artist Statement

I am an artist and an educator. I received both my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art and my Master of Education in Secondary Art Education from Northern Arizona University. My family and I are happy to make Flagstaff, AZ our home.

Most recently I have been working in mixed media on paper, panel, and canvas. Currently I am exploring the integrity of drawing to painting. I am reducing them both to their basic elements to find and exploit their more primitive connections.

I've learned from my children, as they paint and draw, to use simple marks, sparingly, to form a limited and personal language of versatile symbols.

This process has helped me let go of my formal art education to an extent that allows for a less self-conscious pursuit of expression.
